Encouraging Women Into Engineering
HiETA Lead From the Front in Encouraging Women Into Engineering
Within the engineering sector, there is currently an extreme skill shortage. In particular when it comes to women in engineering, only around 7% of engineering professionals in the UK are female, with the proportion being even lower for female engineering apprenticeships. It has been stated that by the year 2022, the UK will need at least 1.82 million new engineering, science, and technology professionals.
In an effort to encourage more women into the field of engineering, HiETA’s Engineering Manager, George Hopkins, visited students at Badminton School last week to extol the virtues of engineering as a career choice. The presentation was well received with George saying, “the response from the students was really encouraging with some good questions about finding suitable universities and degree courses”.
This is not the first time that HiETA have supported the next generation in engineering. Contact us to find out more about our outreach initiatives.
